Howe Gelb's (Tucson, Arizona) music is often called Americana, but it is best described as a mix of lo-fi, rock, folk, blues, noise and jazz. Besides a long list of albums with Giant Sand (1985-2018), Howe regularly released solo albums, and there are numerous spin-offs and other projects that revolved around Gelb. (including OP8, Giant Giant Sand, The Band of Blacky Ranchette, Arizona Amp and Alternator) Gelb is a cult figure, his musical journey and his skills as a songwriter give him impressive credibility in the international music world. Even if for many he is a mystery, he remains an unsurpassed troubadour, a lyrical master and is a live artist to rediscover over and over again thanks to his breathtaking voice and speaking charisma. It should come as no surprise that he has previously worked with Vic Chesnutt, Bonnie Prince Billy, M.Ward, Isobel Cambell, PJ Harvey, Victoria Williams,.... Aarich and Kobe meet Howe Gelb in 2017 during a jazz festival in Liège (Mithra Jazz). The sense of adventure, encouraged by mutual musical friends, drives the need to create together. The Colorist Orchestra digs into the endless repertoire of Gelb and reconstructs songs into ever-changing and unorthodox Colorist sound world. New arrangements are modelled in the hope of adding new colours to Howe''s timbre and narrative power.
